Celebrate diversity in the dream for civil, legal and human rights as the South Coast Chorale presents a concert featuring the west coast premiere of Bayard Rustin: The Man Behind the Dream. This multi-movement piece, set for chorus and spoken word, honors the life and work of openly gay civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, a mentor to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and organizer of the 1963 March on Washington. Focused on peaceful protest and the dignity of all people, Rustin was pushed to the margins of the movement due to his sexuality.
Joined by the First Congregational Church of Long Beach Sanctuary Choir, the LB Poly High School Gospel Choir and members of the Wilson High School Choir, over 100 singers will take the stage, accompanied by a live band and video projection.
